Why doors & windows in modern buildings look so good?

A small survey was conducted among an assorted group of people. The question put before them was: “What kind of fenestration they would prefer for their home and workplace?” almost 80% reverted with a counter question: “What is fenestration?” And so the question was reframed: “Every house or building has openings in walls which we fit with doors and windows. What kind of windows or doors would appeal to them the best if the choice lied with them?” Again, almost all the respondents looked in dismay as if this was a non-issue, and then each one invariably responded shrugging their shoulders: “Glass, I suppose.”
After this point, the question to be put was practically obvious: “How do you think that two walls, either of door or of window, will hold the glass?” Suddenly denouement of the mystery had arrived. People realized that they were being asked about the door and window frames, called in the colloquial terms.
Steel received no favour. Aluminium did, but with a rider that it is light and weak, and hence fragile. It can’t be suitable for heavy duty purposes. Eventually majority went in the favour of wood, because wood is strong, can be given any finish and lasts long. With teak or high quality wood, it doesn’t go out of shape against tortures of weather.
